NEET 2027 CBT Preparation: Tips for Computer-Based Exam.
Updated: 4 days ago

If you’re aiming for NEET 2027, you’ve probably heard the big news: NEET UG is going computer-based. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the shift in May 2026, after the NEET UG 2026 paper leak, and the NTA has since told the Supreme Court it is ready to conduct the exam in CBT mode.
So, what does this mean for your NEET 2027 preparation? Good news first: the syllabus isn’t changing. What changes is how you read, solve, click and manage time. Let’s break it down simply.
What Is Changing in NEET 2027 CBT preparation?
The main change is the mode. Instead of an OMR sheet and a paper booklet, you will answer questions on a computer screen at a test centre. Reports suggest the exam could be spread over five to six days across nearly 1,000 centres, much like JEE Main. With multiple shifts, score normalisation is also likely.
One important reminder: the official NTA Information Bulletin for NEET 2027 is still awaited. Exact details like pattern, shifts and interface will be confirmed there, so keep checking the official NTA website instead of trusting random forwards.
1. Practise Mock Tests on a Screen
Reading a question on paper and on a screen feels very different. Your eyes tire faster, and long Physics numericals are harder to follow when you can’t underline or circle on the page.
Take at least one full-length NEET mock test on a computer every week, and two per week closer to the exam.
Sit for the whole test in one go, without picking up your phone.
Try to match the timing of your likely exam shift.
The more NEET 2027 CBT preparation screen-time practice you get now, the less strange exam day will feel.
2. Build a Smart Rough-Work Habit
In computer-based exams, you usually can’t mark on the question itself. Rough sheets are provided at the centre, so confirm the rules in the bulletin. Start practising Physics and Physical Chemistry with neat, organised rough work: number each question, keep one calculation per section, and avoid scribbling randomly. Also revise squares, cubes, multiplication tables and log values. Faster mental maths saves precious minutes.
3. Get Comfortable with the CBT Interface
NTA’s computer-based exams typically show a question palette, with options like Save & Next and Mark for Review. Learn what each colour means, how to jump between questions, and how to review flagged ones. Use NTA’s official practice tests as soon as they are released, and try mock platforms that copy the real interface. Nothing should surprise you on exam day, not even the mouse.
4. Sharpen Your Time Management
Time is the biggest enemy in NEET, and the screen can make it feel faster. Decide your strategy early. Many students start with Biology, since it is quicker and NCERT-based, then move to Chemistry and finally Physics. Whatever order you pick, practise it until it becomes automatic. Our NEET study plan and time management guide can help you set a routine.
Also, keep your accuracy high. Under the current marking pattern, wrong answers carry negative marking, so avoid wild guesses. A smart approach is to mark tough questions for review and return later if time permits.
5. Don’t Neglect NCERT and Revision
CBT or not, NCERT remains the backbone of NEET Biology and Chemistry. Revise line by line, solve previous years’ NEET questions, and keep making short notes. A computer screen doesn’t change what NEET asks. It only changes how you answer.
6. Take Care of Your Eyes and Mind
Long hours of mock tests on screens can cause eye strain and headaches. Follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Sleep properly, drink water, and take short walks between study sessions. A fresh mind scores better than a tired one.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Practising only on paper until the last month
Ignoring the official bulletin and relying on rumours
Learning the interface on exam day
Skipping revision because of CBT panic
Final Thoughts
The shift to CBT may feel stressful, but it’s a manageable change if you start early. Don't panic, start early. Focus on strong concepts, regular screen-based mocks and calm time management, and you’ll be ready for whichever format NTA finally confirms.
