Will NEET UG 2024 Be Conducted Again? Updates and Insights

Updated: Oct 15

The question of whether NEET UG 2024 will be conducted again has created considerable confusion among aspirants. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) serves as a gateway for students aiming to pursue careers in medicine, including MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, AYUSH, and veterinary studies. In 2024, the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the NEET exam on May 5 for over 24 lakh students. However, rumors of a paper leak have led to significant controversy, raising the possibility of a re-examination.

The NEET UG 2024 results controversy involves high scores and extra marks, raising questions about fairness and transparency in the exam process.

Background of NEET UG 2024 Controversy:

The controversy began with allegations of a paper leak, which drew considerable media attention and diverted focus from other significant events. The unexpected early release of the NEET results on June 4, ten days ahead of the scheduled date, further fueled speculation and concern about the integrity of the exam process.

Against 38 cases filed against the NEET UG 2024 results, the Supreme Court of India has scheduled a final hearing on July 11, 2024. The bench, comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, will hear the concerns related to the NEET 2024 exam. The decision is anticipated today, and candidates are advised to stay updated.

Will NEET UG 2024 Be Conducted Again?

Yes, as per the latest reports, the NEET UG 2024 exam will be conducted again for a few candidates. This decision stems from concerns raised by a petitioner regarding 1,563 candidates who received compensatory marks due to not being allotted the full 3 hours and 20 minutes at their exam centers. A Grievance Redressal Committee initially recommended these compensatory marks. However, the decision faced challenges, prompting the National Testing Agency (NTA) to re-evaluate and suggest canceling the affected students’ NEET 2024 scorecards and conducting a re-examination, likely on June 23, with results expected by June 30 to ensure timely NEET 2024 counseling.

The Union Government and NTA's position led to the Court resolving one petition against the grace marks while issuing a notice on another alleging a paper leak. These petitions, along with others concerning NEET-UG 2024 results, were consolidated for further consideration.

Overview of NEET UG 2024 Results Controversy:

  • Background and Complaints: Widespread complaints have shifted public focus to the NEET UG 2024 results.

  • Concerns About Unusually High Scores: Reports of scores as high as 718 and 719, when the maximum possible score is 720, have raised eyebrows. The NTA attributed these high scores to extra marks given for time lost during the exam at some centers.

  • Suspicion Over Top Scores: Many top scorers, who achieved 720, were from the same exam center, raising doubts about the fairness of scoring.

  • NTA’s Response: The NTA referenced a Supreme Court decision from June 13, 2018, to justify the extra marks but did not provide detailed explanations.

  • Dissatisfaction Among Students: Despite NTA’s explanations, many students and observers feel the results lack transparency and fairness.
